Australia are waiting on the fitness of Jason Krejza for the second Test with New Zealand, which starts on Friday.

The spinner will have a late fitness test after spraining an ankle in training and Nathan Hauritz has been called up as cover.

Hauritz, 27, had expected to be 12th man for New South Wales in their next match and Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting said: "It's a big shock for him.

"He was the best skilled and most experienced of the spinners available."

Ponting added: "Hopefully, he will play well if he gets his chance. I've always like Nathan, the way he's gone about his cricket and like him as a bowler.

"He has played a number of one-day games for us over the years, he made his Test debut in India in 2004 and didn't let anyone down."

All-rounder Andrew Symonds remains in the squad after being cleared of any wrongdoing in a fracas at a hotel.

The 33-year-old admitted he had put himself in a "compromising position" by drinking with members of Australia's rugby league team in Brisbane.

He claimed he "acted appropriately" at all times but apologised to his team-mates for the latest in a series of off-the-field incidents that have dogged his career.

New Zealand will make one change as they seek to avenge their 149-run defeat in the first Test in Brisbane.

Middle-order batsman Peter Fulton returns to the team and will bat at five, with Brendon McCullum dropping down to seven.
