Ferguson agrees new Posh contract

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has moved to end speculation about his future by signing a new four-year deal at London Road.

Ferguson was refused permission to speak to Championship rivals Reading back in May, but now looks set to stay with Posh for at least another season.

The 37-year-old told the club website: "I have always said I am happy here.

"I believe there is unfinished business here and the aim now is to try and get into the Premier League."

Ferguson has been with Posh since January 2007, winning two promotions in two seasons.

To date, Reading are the only club to have made a firm approach for the former Wolves and Wrexham man.

But they were firmly rebuffed by the club, despite a request from Ferguson for permission to open talks.

Chairman Darragh MacAnthony says it was important to bring an end to all the conjecture.

"There was a lot of speculation over the summer, but Darren never wanted to leave," he said.

"I am a realist, if a top club comes in then we have to think about it, but I am hoping that everybody will leave us alone and let us get promoted to the Premier League."

Ferguson had two years remaining on his previous deal.
