Five of the top 11 players on the leaderboard are from Asia, including four South Koreans.
"During my practice rounds I thought this was probably the most difficult course I've ever played in my career," said Choi, in her second season on teh LPGA tour.
"But starting today, I just wasn't very intimidated by this course. I know it's a difficult course, but I was really excited to start my round today, and I thought this was going to be a very, very interesting week for me."
