Bellamy says he could quit football if he has no future at City

Craig Bellamy's Manchester City future looks more uncertain after the striker was left out of City's Europa League squad to face Timisoara next week.

Midfielder Stephen Ireland, who has been linked with a move to Aston Villa, was also omitted as boss Robert Mancini named just 23 of a possible 25 players.

Strikers Roque Santa Cruz and Robinho were among those included in the squad.

However, Mancini will be able to adjust the line-up if City make it through the competition's qualifying round.

The news comes a day after Bellamy, 31, said he would consider quitting football if he fails to make City's 25-man Premier League squad for the coming season.

That scenario appears to be getting closer than ever as Mancini sent a clear indication that Bellamy, who is not injured, is not part of his immediate plans.

Midfielder Ireland also appears to be nearing an exit from the club.

The Irishman was expected to be part of a deal to bring Aston Villa's James Milner to Eastlands before Martin O'Neill's resignation as Villa boss on Monday threw the transfer into confusion.

"If I don't get in the [Premier League] squad I don't know what I will do. I might finish, full stop. Or look at every option. This game is ruthless," said Bellamy on Tuesday.

Emmanuel Adebayor and Carlos Tevez are considered the first-choice centre forwards at City while Mancini is also looking to add exciting young Italian forward Mario Balotelli to the mix.

Bellamy and Mancini both had to deny falling out with each other last season as the club narrowly failed to land a place in the Champions League.

"I feel strongly that I can offer something at the club," Bellamy added.

"[But] I sort of feel I am not going to be part of it. I can see it from a distance. I find that very difficult to take because I really enjoy playing for Manchester City. I think I have shown that with my commitment this year."

Bellamy was bought by former City boss Mark Hughes for £14m in January 2009 and went on to enjoy arguably his finest season.

But amid apparent unrest, Tottenham and a host of other clubs were reported to be interested in him.

"I've had a few options. I've turned down Wolfsburg. I don't fancy Germany, it's not somewhere I see myself playing football," the striker continued.

"With this 25-man ruling, it doesn't matter how well I train or how good my attitude is, I might not be registered to play.

"So do I go without playing football until January, or do I find myself a club where I can play football? I am committed to stay where I am.

"I feel I deserve to be part of it, but I don't pick the 25 or the team. I have to wait on their decision."

Spain international David Silva, who faces a long trip to Mexico for a friendly this week, was also left out of the squad to face Romanian side Timosoara on 19 and 26 August.

City had to submit the list of names to Uefa in line with new guidelines about home-grown players.
