Inglis ruled out of Four Nations

Inglis will be a big loss for Australia but they have strength in depth

Australia's star centre Greg Inglis will miss the autumn's Four Nations tournament because of shoulder surgery.

Inglis, who won the 2009 Rugby League World Golden Boot award, plays his last game for Melbourne Storm on Sunday before joining Brisbane next season.

"He is expected to have the surgery in the next few weeks, meaning he is fit for the Broncos when the 2011 season commences," said the Brisbane website.

Australia take on Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and England in the tournament.

Inglis, 23, won the Golden Boot for his performance in the Kangaroos' Four Nations triumph last year, scoring one of their eight tries in the 46-16 final win over England.

He won the Wally Lewis Medal as the best player in last year's State of Origin series, and scored 16 tries for the Storm, including a play-off hat-trick against his new team Brisbane, as the Storm won their second Premiership in three years.

But earlier this year they were stripped of both titles for breaking the salary cap, and this season they have not been allowed to accumulate any points in the championship.

When the National Rugby League imposed the punishment on the club, chairman Rod Moodie called it "the lowest day in the club's history".
