Man Utd set to sign striker Bebe

Sir Alex Ferguson
Bebe will be Sir Alex Ferguson's third signing of the summer

Manchester United have signed striker Bebe from Vitória de Guimarães for an undisclosed fee, subject to a medical.

The 20-year-old only moved to Guimarães five weeks ago from Portuguese third division club Estrala da Amadora.

But United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to have triggered a release clause in the Portuguese's contract, reported to be around £7m.

Bebe, who was linked with Real Madrid, has agreed terms with the Red Devils and will undergo a medical this week.

The 6ft 2in forward becomes United's third major capture of the summer, joining Chris Smalling and Javier Hernandez in moving to Old Trafford.

Bebe signed a five-year contract with Guimarães in July but has been snapped up by United, reportedly after former Reds assistant manager Carlos Quieroz recommended the player to Ferguson.

Bebe has no senior caps but has represented Portugal in the homeless World Cup after spending part of his childhood living on the streets.

He becomes the eighth forward on United's books.
