Cipriani trains at US soccer club

There have been rumours Cipriani is having second thoughts about Australia

England fly-half Danny Cipriani has joined American Major League Soccer outfit Colorado Rapids for training.

The former Wasps player is due to join Melbourne Rebels in October but has trained with QPR and Tottenham, raising speculation about his desire to go.

"He has a friendship with our coaching staff," said Rapids coach Gary Smith.

"He wants to take advantage of training at altitude and engage in competitive sessions as we prepare for the last part of our season."

Cipriani won the last of his seven international caps in 2008, and has ruled himself out of contention for any more while he is in Australia as England manager Martin Johnson has said he will not pick the 22-year-old while he is playing in the Southern Hemisphere.

For all his undeniable talent, Cipriani has had a strained relationship with Johnson, and his career has also been blighted by serious injury.

Before he has even gone to Australia, he has already spoken of his desire to return to Wasps when his deal expires.

Cipriani said his appearances training at Tottenham and QPR were just an attempt to vary his training regime during the off-season.

But there have been reports he was having second thoughts over his move, and was considering plotting an escape route into football.
