Irish beaten by Canada in Toronto

John Mooney was the best of the Irish batsmen with 47 from 55 balls

Ireland suffered a four-run defeat by Canada on the Duckworth-Lewis method in the opening one-day game in Toronto.

The tourists scored 175-9 from their allotted 35 overs with opener Paul Stirling hitting 35 and John Mooney top scoring with 47.

Canada were 163-4 after 33 overs when bad light brought the game to a premature end, with the hosts securing a narrow win.

The second and final ODI between the sides is later on Tuesday.
