1848: As you have probably heard (or read), the build-up to tonight's game in Basle has been dominated by allegations about Wayne Rooney's private life but England coach Fabio Capello feels the Manchester United striker is in the right state of mind to face the Swiss. Capello says: "I spoke with him, he said he was focused and that he wanted to play against Switzerland. I am sure he will play a really good game, the same level as he was against Bulgaria."

1845: BBC Sport's Phil McNulty at St Jakob Park in Basle: "England face Switzerland in Basle tonight hoping to build on the convincing 4-0 victory against Bulgaria that opened their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. Switzerland will present a tougher test on home soil guided by their experienced coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, but Capello will hope Wayne Rooney justifies his decision to play him despite speculation about his private life. If England win tonight, Capello will feel the recovery from the South Africa World Cup has begun - lose and all the doubts will return."

1842: Wales (who are busy thinking about who their next manager might be) and Northern Ireland (who are probably still celebrating their win over Slovenia) have the night off, but Scotland are also back in action this evening against minnows Liechtenstein. I'd like to think there will be some goals in that one. There's also a whole host of other matches going on, as the journey to Euro 2012 continues apace. Put it this way, the next few hours are unlikely to be dull.

1838: This qualifying business is a breeze isn't it? Er, maybe. England might have brushed aside Bulgaria on Friday, but they might find things a little trickier against Switzerland in Basle tonight. Will it be a walk in St Jakob Park for Fabio Capello's men? We will find out soon enough...
