Illness ends Wellington title bid

Chrissie Wellington crosses the line at Challenge Roth 2010
Wellington has been based in Boulder, Colorado for two years

Chrissie Wellington's bid for a fourth consecutive win at the Ironman World Championship was ended by illness.

The 33-year-old favourite for the women's race in Hawaii pulled out after feeling unwell the day before the race.

Wellington, from Feltwell, had racked her bike ready for the transition but felt she couldn't do justice to the 140 mile race, its fans and competitors.

Mirinda Carfrae took the title, completing an Australian double after Chris McCormack won the men's race.
