Mitch Moreland hits a three-run homer
Moreland's three-run homer settled his side's nerves

Texas Rangers found their form to beat San Francisco Giants 4-2 in Arlington and trim the deficit to 2-1 in the best-of-seven World Series.

Having lost 9-0 in Game Two the Rangers needed to put in a strong display.

Mitch Moreland hit a three-run homer in the second inning and Josh Hamilton smashed a long solo shot in the fifth.

Pitcher Colby Lewis, who played a key part in the win, said: "We definitely didn't want to go three down. It was a big thing to go out there and win."

Moreland, the last man in the Rangers batting order, ended his side's home run drought in the World Series with a hit over the right-field fence, before Hamilton blasted a massive hit measuring 426 feet into the second tier of the stand.

Lewis, 31, who registered six strikeouts, said: "I feel very fortunate to be on this stage really. I was in Japan the last two years. I didn't think I would have this opportunity."

Manager Ron Washington said: "That just goes to show you that he's prepared. He knows what he has to do. He executes."

Relief pitcher Neftali Feliz, a 22-year-old, Dominican, struck out Juan Uribe for the last out to become the second-youngest pitcher to record a World Series save.

The youngest was sitting in the front row near the Texas dugout - Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, now the team president and part-owner, who rose to his feet alongside ex-Rangers owner George W Bush, the former United States president.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said: "It's nice to be in our position right now, but we said we have a lot of work ahead of us.

"We're playing a very good club. We didn't think this would be easy."

Not since 1981 has a team that began with two home triumphs lost the Series but the Giants could still clinch the title in Texas, with Game Four taking place on Sunday and Game Five scheduled for Monday.
