Six-month ban for champion Fraser

Olympic and world 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser has been given a six-month ban by athletics governing body the IAAF following a positive drugs test.

The 23-year-old Jamaican, who chose to miss the Commonwealth Games, tested positive for oxycodone at the Diamond League meeting in Shanghai in May.

Fraser claimed the test was a result of medication she took for toothache.

Having been provisionally suspended in June, the IAAF confirmed she can not return to competition until 7 January.

Oxycodone is banned as a narcotic but is not considered performance-enhancing or to be a masking agent.

Fraser won the Olympic 100m title in Beijing in 2008 before claiming the world crown plus relay gold in Berlin the following year.

She was the eighth Jamaican athlete to test positive in the space of a year.
