World number four Ernie Els missed the cut after hitting eight bogeys in the weather-interrupted second round of the Singapore Masters.

The South African, who opted out of the European Tour's Volvo Masters in Paris to appear, shot a 76 to finish six over par with the cut set at five over.

Angel Cabrera holds the clubhouse lead after a sparkling round of 63 in the wet conditions left him eight under.

However, 37 players were still on the course when lightning stopped play.

Of those yet to complete their round, though, only South African Kevin Horne is in touch with the leading pack as he is one under through 15 holes.

Joint overnight leader Jin Park finished the day in second after a one-under-par 70 left him two shots off Cabrera on six under, with Australia Adam Scott a shot further back.

Englishman Lee Westwood, who, like Els, opted out of the Volvo Masters to appear, leads the European challenge in the clubhouse after a fine round of 67 drew him to four under.

Elsewhere, world number two Mickelson could only manage an indifferent round of 72 to finish six shots off Cabrera.

However, the American believes he can still mount a challenge, claiming: "I think there's going to be a few guys at one, two or three under par who are going to make a move tomorrow and I hope to be one of those guys."

Els, meanwhile, offered no excuses after he failed to make it into the third day, saying: "It's not the way I wanted to play obviously. I felt good before the round started.

"But I just couldn't get it together and, all in all, it was quite disappointing. I was hoping for better things this week but that's golf, you know.

"I'm fine. I can't give you any excuses. I wish I could but it is what it is. It's one of my worst rounds of the year and unfortunately it had to be in Singapore."
