Federer equalled Bjorn Borg's five successive Wimbledon wins in 2007
|
Roger Federer says he would rather win a sixth Wimbledon crown than regain his world number one spot next year.
The 27-year-old Swiss had his five-year unbeaten run at Wimbledon, as well as his 237-week stay as world number one, ended by Spain's Rafael Nadal in 2008.
But he said: "I'd take Wimbledon any day in front of my number one rank.
"It's a good problem to have, but I love Wimbledon. It's so much in your face over there and I've really enjoyed it and it's been such an honour."
Federer will equal Pete Sampras' record of 14 Grand Slam titles if he wins the first one of the season, the Australian Open, in Melbourne in January.
But if he does not achieve his goal at the first attempt, the ATP Tour's revamping of the scheduling of tournaments may help him do so later in the year.

"It is going to be interesting because I think next year will be a much better scheduling year for everybody," he said.
"This year the travel was pretty gruelling and I think next year is going to be better so I'm looking forward to that."
Federer also shrugged off talk of retirement, saying: "It's not going to happen anytime soon because I want to play for many years to come."
