Broad has been having injections in the injured shoulder
|
Stuart Broad will miss England's first two one-day matches against South Africa because of a shoulder problem.
The 23-year-old seam bowler suffered the injury to his right shoulder while fielding in the win over Diamond Eagles in the opening game of the tour.
Since then he has missed matches against the Warriors and South Africa A, and two Twenty20 internationals.
With fellow paceman James Anderson also an injury doubt, Liam Plunkett has been added to the England squad.
But Paul Collingwood should be fit to play after recovering from a back injury having missed the last two matches.
If he does start, the former captain will break Alec Stewart's England record with his 171st one-day international appearance.
"I wasn't sure I'd play many more after the first four games and I've had a lot of luck along the way, especially with staying injury-free. I had a couple of injuries early on but, touch wood, not so many after that," said the 33-year-old.
"The key to my longevity has been getting the most out of what I have in terms of talent.
"I guess over time you work out the formula, how to get the best out of the skills you've been given, that's forever been the motto I've played under."
