Cristiano Ronaldo could resume full training with Real Madrid on Friday as he recovers from an ankle injury.

The former Manchester United winger sustained the injury against Marseille on 30 September and has missed nine games for the Spanish giants.

He was cleared to return to training after tests on Tuesday but the club are not saying when he will play again.

Madrid official Emilio Butragueno said: "We need to take it day-by-day. The doctors will make the decisions."

The injury has also ruled Ronaldo out of both legs of Portugal's World Cup qualifying play-off against Bosnia-Hercegovina.

He has been treated by Professor Niek van Dijk, who operated on the winger's ankle last year when he was at Old Trafford.

Real play Racing Santander on Saturday, followed by a Champions League game against FC Zurich on Wednesday and the season's first "El Clasico" against Barcelona the following Sunday.

Butragueno added: "The doctors will make the decisions. I have the feeling Cristiano wants to be playing already and that enthusiasm could be harmful since it would be terrible if he re-injured himself."
