Nadal to open in Davis Cup final

Nadal will take on Berdych in the first singles rubber on Friday

Spain will hope Rafael Nadal can get back to winning ways when the world number two opens for them in the Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic.

The 23-year-old has lost his last four matches - including all three at last week's ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Nadal will play Tomas Berdych in Friday's opening rubber in Barcelona, with David Ferrer taking on Radek Stepanek in the second singles.

The tie will be played indoors on clay at the Palau Sant Jordi.

In Saturday's doubles, Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez will take on Lukas Dlouhy and Jan Halek.

Defending champions Spain are the favourites but the form of their leading men is a worry, with Verdasco also losing all three matches in London last week and losing out to Ferrer for a starting place in Barcelona.

"It wasn't a big surprise," said Nadal. "When you are not 100% at a tournament like that you're going to lose.

"Here I am 100%. I will be playing a little bit better I hope. You can't always play perfect but I think I'm ready for tomorrow."

Nadal has a 10-0 record in singles rubbers on clay and has won four matches in a row against Berdych since an ill-tempered defeat in Madrid three years ago.

"There's no problem between Rafael and I," said Berdych. "I don't think this will play a part in this game.

"He's going to play at home and he's going to play on his favourite surface. I think he's going to be at his best."
