Tottenham to trial Spanish keeper

Asier Riesgo
Riesgo was first-choice keeper for Recreativo Huelva in La Liga last season

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has handed a trial to Real Sociedad goalkeeper Asier Riesgo, the Spanish club have confirmed.

Riesgo, 26, is a former Spanish Under-21 international, who spent last season on loan at Recreativo Huelva.

Spurs need cover for keeper Heurelho Gomes as Carlo Cudicini is out for the season due to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident last month.

"Asier will train next week with Tottenham," read a Sociedad statement.

It is understood that no fee has yet been agreed between the clubs for Riesgo, should Redknapp decide to sign the keeper.

In recent weeks, Ben Alnwick and Jimmy Walker have been on the bench for Tottenham in place of Cudicini, who fractured both his wrists and injured his pelvis in a collision with a car in Walthamstow on 12 November.

Spurs have also been linked with defensive reinforcements, but Redknapp stated he was unlikely to bring anyone in despite injuries to England internationals Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate.

"If Woody is fit and Ledley is fit we're great there," said Redknapp. "We're in great shape if they're fit but it's a big if.

"When they played together last year they were a great partnership. But getting them out on the pitch at the same time has proved more difficult."
