Martin Kaymer leads by one shot after round three of the French Open following a last-hole double bogey by Alejandro Canizares.
Spaniard Canizares, the second-round leader, dropped two shots at the 18th to end the round on eight under, tied in second place with Steve Webster.
Luke Donald is one of six players tied for fourth place, a further shot off the pace.
Rory McIlroy is in a group of five players tied for 12th on five under.
Canizares's late slump will put even more pressure on him in Sunday's final round.
He has never played in a major, but has a chance of an appearance at this year's Open at St Andrews as there is a place up for grabs for the leading non-exempt player, provided he finishes in the top five.
