Craig Cathcart will miss the Euro 2012 qualifier in Totfir

Northern Ireland defender Craig Cathcart has pulled out of Tuesday's Euro 2012 qualifier against the Faroe Islands in Totfir.

The Blackpool player, who won his first cap against Slovenia last month, has been forced out after failing to recover from a back injury.

Northern Ireland are third in Group C after holding leaders Italy to a scoreless draw in Belfast on Friday.

The Faroes have lost all four of their qualifiers and lie bottom.

Northern Ireland have made a good start to their campaign and a victory on Tuesday would leave them with seven points from three games.

The Faroe Islands were hammered 5-1 by Slovenia on Friday and Northern Ireland will be expected to take all three points from the Totfir clash.

However, Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington will no doubt remind his team of the meeting between the sides in 1991 when the Faroes Island stunned Windsor Park by securing a 1-1 draw.

The manager has a selection dilemma in attack with David Healy now 14 games without a goal after squandering a glorious chance against the Italians.

In-form Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty is pushing for a start after making a substitute appearance on Friday night.
