Johnson agrees new Everton deal

England striker Andrew Johnson has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with Everton.

The 26-year-old, who had been linked with a move to West Ham in January, has agreed a five-year deal.

"We are absolutely delighted, it is fantastic news for Evertonians," Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright told the club's website.

"This deal further underlines our commitment to keep our best players at our club."

Kenwright added: "We continue to build for the future and Andrew Johnson is very much part of that future."

Johnson has scored 13 goals for the club since joining them for 8.6m from Crystal Palace in 2006, but has only only one to his name this season.

He signed a five-year deal with Everton on making the move, but his new contract has replaced the previous deal.

The former Birmingham striker is returning to full fitness after an ankle operation earlier this season.
