Hull FC's Kirk Yeaman
Yeaman's second-half try proved to be the match-winner

Hull made it four wins out of four and went to the top of the Super League table with a fine win at Huddersfield.

Brett Hodgson drew first blood for the Giants, only for Tom Briscoe and Richard Horne to reply for Hull.

Joe Walsh's try reduced Hull's lead but Jamie Thackray then scored to restore the advantage before the break.

Kevin Brown's second-half try gave the Giants hope but Kirk Yeaman's try ended their chances, and David Hodgson's late score was mere consolation.

Hodgson gave Huddersfield a perfect start, opening the scoring in the second minute when he got underneath Luke Robinson's bomb.

Briscoe soon equalised after Martin Aspinwall clumsily turned over possession, with Danny Tickle adding the goal.

Horne then stretched the lead with a delightful sidestep after Willie Manu's offload as Hull looked to take charge of the game.

The visitors were comfortably on top but failed to take advantage, and they were made to pay when Walsh scored from Scott Moore's pass after two penalties in quick succession dragged play up the other end of the field.

Thackray's pure strength saw him barge through two tackles to go over in the left-hand corner, and Hull deserved their 18-10 half-time lead.

Having given Huddersfield a dream start to the first half, Hodgson did the same early in the second, but as creator rather than scorer, with his quick hands setting up Brown to go over from close range.

Another piece of poor handling, this time by Hodgson, turned possession over to Hull and Yeaman was the man to benefit, when he darted through the defensive line to fall on Chris Thorman's grubber kick and score.

Hodgson made amends for his blunder with a late try, which meant the narrowness of their margin of victory score did not reflect Hull's superiority on the pitch.
