By Caroline Cheese

From anon via text on 81111: "Good to be back, Cheese. Still think United have the strongest squad; Kiko not even on the bench. Bring it."

1453: Here we go then. Carlo Ancelotti leads a team out at Wembley for the first time in his career. It's not the first time he has come up against Sir Alex Ferguson. Milan beat United 3-0 in the 2007 Champions League semi-final - a performance the Italian described as the finest under his tenure.

BBC Sport's Phil McNulty at Wembley: "Wembley's much-criticised playing surface was given a thorough soaking prior to kick-off. Will be interesting to see how the latest incarnation plays on the big occasions this season. New Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti has gone straight for a strong side while Sir Alex Ferguson is more experimental. Hardly a defining game but always good for some early sparring between the main contenders."

Wilkins on Chelsea's lack of signings: "Real Madrid have blown everyone away in the transfer market. We've been in for numerous players but the prices have been too high. I think that's wise of the owner not to pay those prices."

Chelsea assistant boss Ray Wilkins: "When Chelsea and Manchester United meet, it's always an important game. We obviously want to win the game - but it's vitally important we come through injury-free. We have worked extremely hard in pre-season and we feel we're in fine fettle."

1444: Coventry hang on for a 2-1 win over Roy-Keane's-Ipswich, Chris Coleman's side becoming only the fourth team in the Champ to open the season with a win. Many have tipped them to struggle this season.

1442: Nani in for Cristiano Ronaldo then... Important season for Nani, you feel, as well as Dimitar Berbatov.

1439: TEAMS Chelsea v Man Utd
Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Carvalho, Ashley Cole, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Malouda, Drogba, Anelka. Subs: Hilario, Ballack, Bosingwa, Deco, Kalou, Alex, Belletti.
Man Utd: Foster, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Park, Fletcher, Carrick, Nani, Rooney, Berbatov. Subs: Kuszczak, Owen, Giggs, Scholes, Fabio Da Silva, Valencia, Gibson.

BBC Radio 5 live
Chris Waddle on BBC 5 live: "It's very unusual for neither side to include a new signing in this match. I bet it's never happened before. They're both very strong sides though."

1435: No new signings in either team... so Antonio Valencia and Michael Owen on the bench for Manchester United.

BBC Sport's Phil McNulty tweeting from Wembley: "Huge applause from Chelsea fans for captain John Terry when he is shown on the screens. He was never really going to leave was he?"

1429: Look, I know it's a bit wrong that football is played in early August, but at the same time, it is so comforting to know it's back - and it's not going away for aaages. No team news from Wembley yet, but it shouldn't be too long. Will Michael Owen start? Or Berbatov/Rooney? Yuri Zhirkov isn't expected to feature for Chelsea. He's got a knee injury.

1426: Very good of BBC chief football writer Phil McNulty to promote my new invention. I'm not even paying him. Phil has pledged to tweet throughout the season... or until Twitter goes out of fashion.

BBC Sport's Phil McNulty tweeting from Wembley: "Tribute to the late Sir Bobby Robson on Wembley's giant screens. Great man. Great career as player and manager with clubs and country."

1418: A Colchester United supporter, not unreasonably, writes: "Re 1409: As a Colchester United supporter (we are in East Anglia!), it was great to beat Norwich, and even better if Ipswich get thumped!"

1416: To celebrate the new season, I have invented a social networking site I'm calling Twitter. Not sure about the name yet. Gonna see how it goes. You can find me on there, or post on old-fashioned 606 or use the hideously outdated 'text' system on 81111.

From MancTomMc on 606: "Can I be the first to say, it's a Mickey Mouse event if we lose, if we win then it's a sign of things to come."

1409: Not been a great weekend for East Anglian football so far. Norwich annihilated 7 (seven)-1 at home to Colchester yesterday. Roy Keane's Ipswich currently trail Coventry 2-1, although still a little under half an hour remaining.

1406: And here's why: Ancelotti has his first chance to make his mark on English football, and we'll get to see how Manchester United might shape up in the post-Ronaldo era. Will Wayne Rooney thrive in a central role? Can Dimitar Berbatov start to justify the price-tag? Oh yeah, and there's little Micky Owen to consider too…

1400: "It is not a friendly game, it is very important." So says new Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti. And you know what? It kind of does feel like quite an important game.
