Greece victory delights Rehhagel

Highlights - Greece 2-1 Nigeria

Greece coach Otto Rehhagel said he was a relieved man after his side kept their World Cup hopes alive with a 2-1 win over Group B rivals Nigeria.

"Of course it would have been a shame to go home without a point, so we're very pleased to have scored points here," said Rehhagel.

Greece need to beat Argentina in their final game to ensure progression.

"They will clearly be better than us and we have got to see how to cope with them," he said of the South Americans.

It was an eventful match in Bloemfontein, with Nigeria taking the lead when Kalu Uche's 40-yard free-kick floated into the Greece net.

The African side were then reduced to 10 men when Sani Kaita was shown a straight red for appearing to kick Vassilis Torosidis on the touchline.

Greece equalised soon after when Dimitris Salpingidis's 18-yard shot deflected off the luckless Haruna Lukman and into the Nigeria goal.

And the winner came deep into the second half when Torosidis pounced after Nigeria keeper Vincent Enyeama failed to hold on to Alexandros Tziolis's low drive.

Celtic striker Georgios Samaras, who came off the bench to help the Greeks to victory, said his team "pushed themselves to the limit".

We want to enjoy it but there is not time for celebration.

"We have a very good team and I just try to do my best. We deserved to win because we worked really hard," he said.

"They are an African team with a lot of strength, with power and pace. We pushed ourselves to the limit.

"This is a good moment for us. I never feel pressure. I am positive about football, every single day, every single minute.

"We want to enjoy it but there is no time for celebration."
