Nadal powers to fifth French Open title

Rafael Nadal
Nadal is only the second man to win the French Open five times

Rafael Nadal put on a dazzling display to beat Robin Soderling 6-4 6-2 6-4 and win his fifth French Open title and regain the world number one spot.

Nadal, 24, gained the vital break of serve in the fifth game of the first set when Soderling mistakenly left a ball he thought was going long.

A double break in the fifth and seventh games of the second set moved him closer to a seemingly inevitable win.

Soderling struggled bravely but had no reply to Nadal's clay-court brilliance.

Full report to follow.
