Rebecca Adlington and Jo Jackson both reached the final of the women's 400m freestyle at the World Championships in Rome, but in contrasting fashions.

Jackson won her heat and reached the final as the third fastest qualifier, with world record holder Federica Pellegrini setting the fastest time.

Olympic champion Adlington was second in her heat and had to watch two more before being sure of her final spot.

She advanced to Sunday evening's final as the eighth fastest qualifier.
