Anne Keothavong will undergo a scan after injuring her knee in a collision with a fence during her first-round doubles match at the West Classic.

Keothavong, 25, and her partner Ayumi Morita of Japan were forced to retire at 4-6 5-3 against France's Julie Coin and Marie Pelletier of Canada.

The Briton, who was clearly in pain, was taken to hospital for tests.

Keothavong said on her Twitter web page: "Busted my knee, got a scan in the morning but think I know already."

The British number one, who had been chasing a shot when she ran into the fence, also posted a picture of her leg bandaged from thigh to toe.

Keothavong was beaten 6-1 6-4 by world number four Elena Dementieva in the first round of the singles competition in California.
