Visa woe almost stumps Pakistani lawyers' cricket team

A team of Pakistani lawyers hoping to play in an international charity cricket competition in England was almost stumped by a legal problem.

The players were refused visas to enter the UK for The Lawyers Cricket World Cup, tournament organisers said.

English barristers intervened to clear up the problem and they joined the competition now under way in Cambridge.

"The Pakistan team found that they were being refused visas," said a spokesman for the organising committee.

"With a great deal of help from the Bar Council this problem has been overcome and we shall welcome the Pakistanis who seem to face more problems than the rest of us."

Twelve teams - featuring a number of judges - from around the world will take part in the competition, which raises money for charity.
