Mowbray reveals family's concerns

Celtic manager Tony Mowbray says his family have been concerned about negativity surrounding him since he took over at the club.

The Englishman has found himself under the spotlight as his team have had mixed fortunes on the park.

"It affects the people around you who read the papers, the people you love and care about," he said.

"It's not particularly nice that they've become concerned about me. But they don't need to worry, I'm fine."

Mowbray, who succeeded Gordon Strachan in the summer, feels his candid attitude towards the press in Scotland has often been exploited.

"I'm a pretty open guy and I like to talk about football but if it keeps getting used against you every week, then why keep falling in the same trap?" he explained.

"I love to talk about football, I'm an honest guy but it doesn't seem to be a positive, it seems to be a negative."

The former West Brom and Hibernian manager feels the environment in the west of Scotland is more intense than he experienced in his previous two jobs.

I laugh it off, it genuinely is not an issue for me

"I worked with the media in Edinburgh and the west midlands and now I'm working with the media in Glasgow.

"I understand it but the bottom line is when you are speaking to the media in the west midlands, there doesn't seem to be an agenda there, or the need to twist things.

"So you can talk honestly and openly and have a bit of banter with the journalists who are not there to create stories that aren't there.

"You definitely can't do that here. But I'm not here to change it, I'm here to work within it and I will do that."

Despite his perceived difference in media culture he insists he is not being adversely affected.

"I laugh it off, it genuinely is not an issue for me.

"I am a very focused guy in what I believe is right and I will keep doing that."

Under Mowbray Celtic top the Scottish Premier League - although rivals Rangers are just two points behind with a game in hand.

The Parkhead side have also failed to progress from their Europa League group, and were knocked out of the Co-operative Insurance Cup by Hearts.
