Somerset captain Marcus Trescothick has signed a new three-year contract, with the option of an extra year.

The former England opener, 33, was the highest-scoring batsman in first-class cricket last summer, hitting 1,817 runs at an average of 75.7.

He helped Somerset finish third in the County Championship and reach the final of the Twenty20 Cup.

Trescothick first played for the county when he was 17 and will now remain at Taunton until at least 2012.
