It's bad news for a Briton in Melbourne
0044: Oh dear, another Brit-down graphic I'm afraid. Ross Hutchins and Stephen Huss have been broken in the first set of their match against Polish pair Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski and trail 5-3.

0041: Dinara Safina is not hanging about on the Rod Laver Arena and leads 4-1 against Kanepi. Bad news for the Brits, though, Keo has just lost the first set 6-1

"Safina has had a bit of a mixed time of it in Melbourne so far but she is two breaks up already here. She has never been past the second round here before but here chances are looking better by the game."
Radio 5 Live's Alistair Eykyn.

0037: Another love serve game for Juan Martin del Potro but Muller is still matching him at the moment.

"Chris, I'm celebrating the first few hours of my 20th birthday by doing a worksheet on the anatomy of the small intestine! Keep the updates coming."

Hmmm. A worksheet on the anatomy of the small intestine? Sounds like a lot to digest to me...Happy birthday though Tim!

It's bad news for a Briton in Melbourne
0036: Hmmm, it is not looking good for Anne Keothavong, who came to Melbourne in great form but went out in the first round of the singles. She has reached the second round of the doubles but her and Jugic-Salkic are trailing 4-1 in the first set against Maria Kirilenko and Flavia Pennetta.

0032: Del Potro has only dropped one point on serve so far, which isn't a surprise because you can barely see it. Not sure Santoro would like to be on the other side of the court. Muller is holding out too, however, and that one is with serve at 3-2 to the man from Luxembourg in the first set.

0029: "Got an essay in for uni tomorrow deadline at 12. Waiting for A-Rod to come on anyway so what better time to touch up the essay last minute! COME ON A-ROD!"

Roddick's match against 'The Magician', French veteran Fabrice Santoro, is third on the Hisense Arena. It should be a bit spicy too - they had a fall-out when Roddick won at the US Open in 2008 - Santoro accused him of trying to hit him with his serve.

0026: Apologies for the lack of live streaming so far - I know from your texts a lot of you want to watch the Ross Hutchins in his doubles match (currently all-square in the first set). We haven't got a feed of that match, which is why the Elena Baltacha match from yesterday is still on the red button.

It's bad news for a Briton in Melbourne
0022: We've got another Brit in action at the moment too - Anne Keothavong is partnering Jugic-Salkic in the women's doubles. They are playing Maria Kirilenko and Flavia Pennetta in the women's doubles but they are a break down in the first set.

0015: Not much messing about in the first two games of the Del Potro-Muller match. Both have huge serves and both hold easily enough.

"Is it me or does Gilles Muller look the exact opposite of a tennis player, bit weird isn't he?"
Hassan, Ealing via text on 81111

Well, he's tall (6ft 4in in fact) - which makes him ideal for a tennis player to be honest. Just ask Del Potro, all 6ft 6in of him.

Someone is having a tantrum in Melbourne
0010: Elsewhere at Melbourne Park, Marat's sister, the women's third seed Dinara Safina, is first on the Rod Laver Arena where she takes on Estonian clay-court specialist Kaia Kanepi. No tantrums yet from Dinara, but a hot temper runs in the family so be warned!

And Safina's compatriot Nadia Petrova, seeded 10th, is under way against Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan.

0009: By the way, Muller became the first person from Luxembourg to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam in the 2008 US Open. He ended up losing to Roger Federer in the last eight.

As a proud Welshman, I'm sad to report that no Welsh player has ever managed to progress as far as that in a Slam...our best effort was Sarah Loosemore's run to the third round of the Australian Open in 1990.

0007: Juan Martin del Potro, the Argentine eighth seed, and Gilles Muller, Luxembourg's greatest ever player, are out on court on the Hisense Arena and warming up.

It's good news for a Briton in Melbourne
0004: Oh, and I forgot to mention that British doubles pair Ross Hutchins and his Australian partner Stephen Huss are back in action today - they're first up on Court Six against Polish pair Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, the sixth seeds, in the second round.

0002: "(see 2345) Haha, my last exam was today! But I do have an essay due on Friday, there is no rest!"

2359: Also coming up later is the showdown between Caroline Cheese's favourite Russian tennis hunk, Marat Safin, and former world number one Roger Federer. Should be a cracker, that one.

That match is under the floodlights on the Rod Laver Arena and will be live on the BBC via the red button following the match between Caroline Wozniacki and home hope Jelena Dokic, which starts at 0830 GMT. Commentary for that clash will also be on 5 Live sports extra and on this website (for UK users).

2357: Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick and Juan Martin del Potro are all back on court in the next few hours (or, in some cases, minutes) as are Dinara Safina and Jelena Jankovic. See? I told you there was a lot of tennis.

2354: So what's happening on day five? I hear you ask. The answer is: A lot of tennis. Absolutely loads, in fact.

2351: But reigning Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, who has won seven Grand Slam singles titles and was the women's sixth seed here, is out after her second round defeat by Carla Suarez Navarro on day four. Surprised? I know I was.

It's good news for a Briton in Melbourne
2348: Have you been paying attention to what's been going on at Melbourne Park this week? Yes? Good. But, just in case you haven't, I should tell you that there have been no major shocks in the early rounds of the men's tournament, with all top eight men's seeds safely through - including our very own Andy Murray.

2345: Right then. The third round of the Australian Open starts here, in a few minutes time. I hope you're all wide awake, especially if you've got an exam tomorrow...
