Before we came to the topic, let me ask you a question, how could people tell clothes of varies of brands from each other?
Bingo! It is logo that helps us distinguish different brands.
Now, let`s get to today`s point-Nike logo.
Nike is one of the earliest sports shoes brand. Swoosh, as the symbol of the athletic shoe and clothing manufacturer Nike, is among the most easily recognized brand logos in the world as well.
In other words, the evolution history of Nike logo could represent other world brands`.
Stage 1,
In 1971, creating by a graphic design student Carolyn Davidson swoosh logo firstly came out. And it took Nike company 35$ for its patent. Though a small swoosh, the logo represents the wing in the famous statue of the Greek goddess of victory, Nike, who was the source of inspiration for many great and courageous warriors.
Swoosh is concise and brings about a very strong visual impact. If you are careful enough, it is easy to find out that the Nike swoosh logo nowadays is a little bit thinner than the original one, but it expresses a stronger sense of speed and excitement.
Stage 2,
The swoosh logo changed from an abstract wing into a solid one, and was placed right below the standard “Nike” making the logo rough, strong and outstanding.
Stage 3,
As time went by, deleted the word on the logo, swoosh becoming simple and abstract, no mention the strong visual impact. At the same time, it is easier for people of different languages to indentify, more international, and more conducive to the brand publicity and promotion.
The meaning
From the official website of Nike, the swoosh logo was explained officially:

It`s what we use when we speak. It`s a distinction at the highest level between who we are and what we make.”
