Flintoff backed to hit top form

Coach Peter Moores says Andrew Flintoff can regain the all-round form which helped England win the 2005 Ashes.

He has had three ankle operations and there are concerns his bowling action may cause him to break down again, while he has also struggled for runs.

"I don't see any reason why he shouldn't play that type of cricket again," Moores told 5live's Sportsweek.

"He's an aggressive and natural player. He's in good shape and he's the type of player you can't keep down."

But Moores acknowledged England must not overburden the all-rounder.

Flintoff, who underwent a third operation on his left ankle in May, has made a superb return to the England team in the first two one-day internationals.

He bowled at 92mph in the first one-day international against India at the Rose Bowl and then claimed his first five-wicket haul in internationals in the second match on Friday.

However, fresh doubts have been raised about the Lancashire star's fitness after the 29-year-old suffered a stiff knee in India's series-levelling win in Bristol.
