Gerrard & Carragher miss tie

Liverpool are without Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher for their Champions League qualifer with Toulouse.

Skipper Gerrard has not recovered from a broken toe while Carragher suffered a collapsed lung and a broken rib in Saturday's win at Sunderland.

Fellow defender Sami Hyypia broke his nose in the same game but is available after training as normal on Sunday.

Toulouse are without Dominique Arribage (knee), Daniel Congre (shoulder) and Albin Ebondo (thigh).

But defender Jon Jonsson makes the squad despite a recent calf problem.

Toulouse trail 1-0 after the first leg and prepared for the match at Anfield with a 1-1 draw at Nice on Saturday, Andre-Pierre Gignac scoring the equaliser for Les Violets in the 86th minute.

Liverpool defeated Sunderland 2-0 on Saturday, but 29-year-old Carragher was substituted after 75 minutes.

The defender had a scan on Sunday and will be monitored by club doctors, though there has been no indication from Liverpool as to how long Carragher will be sidelined.

With Hyppia declared fit to play he is expected to partner Daniel Agger in the centre of Liverpool's defence.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez opted for Fernando Torres and Andriy Voronin against Sunderland but Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt are expected to start against Toulouse.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez:
"It's a really important game for us.

"If we want to be in the group stages again then we need to go about our work in the right manner.

"We need to be focused and concentrate throughout. The players know there is still a game to play."
