Tim Henman says he is ready to sign off his Grand Slam career in style at the US Open this week. The 32-year-old will retire from tennis after Britain's Davis Cup clash with Croatia next month due to ongoing problems with a back injury. But Henman says he will be injury free when he faces Dmitry Tursunov at around 1900 BST on Wednesday. "My back feels pretty good and I'm itching to get back out on court and try for another win here," he said.
Henman, who is scheduled to play in the third match on the Louis Armstrong Stadium, has lost five of his six meetings with Tursunov, including a second-round clash at Wimbledon in 2005 and earlier this season in Nottingham. "Dmitry can be tough to play against because he makes it difficult to get into any kind of rhythm," added Henman.
"He's got a big serve and then he can hurt you with both his forehand and his backhand, so when he's playing well it's difficult to feel like you're in control of much out there. "What I need to do is serve well and try to dictate play on my serve and then be patient when returning, so that when I get an opportunity to break, I'm ready to make the most of it. "It's a shame this will be the last time I'll play here, but I'm positive I've made the right decision to retire and I'm very much looking forward to the next stage of my life after tennis."
