Injured Furyk doubtful for USPGA

World number two Jim Furyk is a doubt for next week's USPGA Championship after injury forced him out of this week's WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

Furyk hurt his back during practice for the WGC event at the Firestone Country Club in Ohio on Tuesday.

"I would love to try to be prepared and ready to go at the PGA, but if that's not the case, just get healthy and get strong," said the 37-year-old American.

In-form Furyk won last weekend's Canadian Open.

That victory saw him overtake Phil Mickelson in the world rankings as the new number two behind Tiger Woods.

The American tied for second at the US Open at Oakmont in June and was tied for 12th at last month's Open at Carnoustie.

"I've had a good stretch the last few months of playing, so it's a little easier to handle," he added.

The USPGA is the season's final major and takes place at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, from 9 August.
