First set:

Venus 3-0 Nagy
Venus looks like she's got to be somewhere else and is running a bit late. She continues to climb all over the Nagy serve and it's break number two.

Venus 2-0 Nagy
Venus hits her first serve of the day at 129mph, which looks like a Grand Slam record as the previous best was 128mph - by Venus. The American also takes a tumble at one point but gets up with no fuss and races through the rest of the game.

Venus 1-0 Nagy
Venus, wearing a green and white number that isn't really doing it for me, opens with two thumping returns, quickly moves to three break points and cracks a forehand winner on the second. This could be swift and brutal.

0015: As for the match itself, Nagy is 29 years old, ranked 137 in the world and playing only her second ever Grand Slam match. To say a win over Venus would be an upset is something of an understatement.

0110: You really should be in bed, you know. Still, if it's text-based coverage of the first night match of the 2007 US Open you're after, this is the place. Venus Williams is about to take on Kira Nagy, after a tribute entitled "Breaking Barriers" to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Althea Gibson becoming the first black woman to with US Open 50 years ago.
