AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas freshman defensive tackle Andre Jones was arrested and booked into jail on an aggravated robbery charge Friday, his 18th birthday.
Jones was charged in connection with a robbery July 27 at an Austin apartment complex. He was taken into custody by University of Texas police officers without incident, according to a statement issued by the Austin Police Department.
Bond was set at $40,000 on the charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, police said. An attorney for Jones could not immediately be reached for comment.
Former Texas safety Robert Joseph, who was suspended last month, has also been arrested in the case.
The two are accused in a holdup in which cash, video game equipment and cell phones were reported to be stolen. Witnesses said they saw Joseph with a handgun during the incident and Jones acting as if he were reaching for a gun, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Jones, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound graduate of El Paso Andress, was a top high school recruit.
The Longhorns begin their fall practices Monday.
UT athletic officials did not immediately comment after Jones' arrest Friday.
