Cancellara secures time-trial win

Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara successfully defended his time-trial title at the Road World Championships in Stuttgart on Thursday.

The 26-year-old covered the 44.9km in an unofficial time of 55 minutes 41 seconds to retain the title he won in Salzburg last year.

Cancellara beat Hungary's Laszlo Bodrogi by 52 seconds, with Dutch rider Stef Clement another five seconds back.

Last year's runner-up David Zabriskie of the United States finished 12th.

Cancellara, who wore the leader's yellow jersey for the first week of this year's Tour de France after winning the prologue, overtook Vladimir Gusev even though the Russian started one minute before him.

Last year, Cancellara ended the three-year-reign of Australia's Michael Rogers.

Britain's Bradley Wiggins came in 10th place, with David Millar finishing 18th.
