Ferrari head McLaren in practice

Ferrari set the pace in first practice at the Japanese Grand Prix, leaving championship rivals McLaren trailing as the title battle comes to a head.

As Formula One returned to the Fuji Speedway for the first time in 30 years, Kimi Raikkonen was fastest in a time of one minute 19.119 seconds.

The Finn's team-mate Felipe Massa was 0.4secs adrift, ahead of McLaren's Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton has a two-point lead over Alonso and 13 over Raikkonen.
