Hosts face West Indies in opener

ICC World Twenty20 Group A, Johannesburg: South Africa v West Indies
Match starts 1700 BST Tuesday

Hosts South Africa open the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 on Tuesday against the West Indies in Johannesburg.

The teams are drawn with minnows Bangladesh in Group A, with two of the three going through to the next stage.

South Africa pick from a squad which had a late change when Andre Nel came in for Loots Bosman, who was injured in a recent match against Zimbabwe.

The West Indies have had injury worries over Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo, but both are expected to be fit.

South Africa batsman AB de Villiers will be hoping his side field first, as he believes batting first is to be avoid in Twenty20 cricket.

After Sunday's warm-up win against Australia, he said: "It's not easy to find your feet and know if the target you've set is enough if you bat first.

"Batting second, it's a matter of keeping wickets in hand and making sure you reach your targets every five overs.

"Batting first you have to sum up the conditions and adjust. That takes time and you don't have time in Twenty20."

West Indies fast bowler Daren Powell, meanwhile, hopes batsmen won't have it all their own way in the competition.

He will be looking to repeat his efforts in Sunday's comprehensive warm-up win over New Zealand, in which he took three wickets for four runs in his four-overs spell.

He said: "I've been saying that in Twenty20 cricket, even though it is a batsman's game, a bowler can go out there and put on a spectacular show.

"But never in your dreams you can think of bowling a spell like that."
