Lima bows out after appeal fails

Samoa star Brian Lima's record-breaking World Cup career is over after his appeal against a three-week ban failed.

A three-man appeal committee has upheld the ban imposed on the 35-year-old after Saturday's game against England.

The centre, who is the only man to play in five World Cups, was cited following a dangerous tackle on Jonny Wilkinson.

Lima, who had already decided that this year's tournament would be his last, will now miss Samoa's final group game against the United States.

The squad will head home after the match in St Etienne, having failed to reach the next stage of the competition.
