1300: Hold onto your camshafts, we're off and running. The qualifying session will last one hour and could get pretty tasty out there with Kimi Raikkonen desperate to make his car's advantage tell and give himself chance of pole for Sunday's Grrand Prix.

12.51 Conditions at Spa-Francorchamps are hot and dry (29 degrees) and times around F1's longest circuit, at just over 7km (4.3 miles), should be quick.

12.43 News just through. BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica has been thrown a 10-place grid penalty for having to have a replacement engine fitted after an earlier failure this morning.

12.40 Welcome to qualifying for the Belgium Grand Prix. Here's a quick reminder to those who you don't know the score about what happens this afternoon. After the first 15-minute session, the slowest six cars will be eliminated.

Six more cars will then be discarded after a second period before the remaining top 10 cars, usually the big guns, battle it out for the grid positions for Sunday's race proper.

1230 Formula One's focus turns back to the track at Spa on Saturday after a week in which the McLaren-Ferrari 'spygate' case has dominated proceedings.

Team principal Ron Dennis is still smarting after McLaren's record fine and the loss of all their points in this season's constructors' championship.

Nothing will soothe his sense of grievance better than dominant performances from drivers Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton this weekend.

They were fastest in Friday practice, but Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa topped the timesheets on Saturday ahead of qualifying.
