Pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. is ready to enter a new arena Tuesday night. Forget the ring, we're talking dancing.
I am ready to dance my way to greatness and show everyone I am multi-dimensional, have natural rhythm and talent and will perform on the show like I perform in the ring.
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The welterweight world champion will make his live dancing debut on the new season of "Dancing with the Stars" (ABC, 8 p.m. ET).
Mayweather, with partner Karina Smirnoff, will dance the cha-cha in the ballroom dancing reality show.
Mayweather and Smirnoff have been practicing for weeks, including during part of his recently completed media tour to promote his Dec. 8 (HBO PPV) defense against junior welterweight champ Ricky Hatton.
Mayweather is juggling his training schedule with the demands of the series. If Mayweather advances all the way to the "Dancing with the Stars" finale, his involvement with the show would end only a couple of weeks before the fight.
"I am ready to dance my way to greatness and show everyone I am multi-dimensional, have natural rhythm and talent and will perform on the show like I perform in the ring," Mayweather said.
He is scheduled to dance second on the episode, which will feature the male contestants. Monday's season debut featured the female participants in the 11-person competition.
Mayweather said dancing on the show and training for the fight won't be too much for him to handle.
"I am ready for the challenge," Mayweather said. "I work out two to three times a day anyway so the dancing practice will only add to my overall preparation for the fight."
Mayweather is hoping he will impress the viewers of the popular show.
"I need the support of all of my boxing fans so please tune in, call-in and vote for me," he said.
