BONN, Germany -- Former Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich transferred money to a Spanish doctor suspected of providing doping services to riders, according to German prosecutors.
The transfer of $34,742 to Spanish sports physician Eufemiano Fuentes was made in early 2004 from Ullrich's account in a Swiss bank, Bonn prosecutor spokesman Joerg Schindler said Thursday.
A similar transfer was made in early 2006, but investigators are still trying to determine if that sum was sent to Fuentes. Investigators say Ullrich is suspected of fraud and they are trying to link him to doping.
In April, prosecutors matched a sample of Ullrich's DNA to blood found stored in Fuentes' office in May 2006.
Ullrich, who won the Tour de France in 1997, has denied doping but he was fired by his T-Mobile team and retired in February. He lives in Switzerland.
