Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has no fresh injury worries ahead of the opening Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Midfielder Paul Hartley could feature, despite not playing in Saturday's 5-0 victory over Inverness.

Scott McDonald, who scored one and made another against Spartak, is likely to partner Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

Shakhtar will be without suspended captain Dmytro Chygrynskiy, with Darijo Srna set to deputise.

Shakhtar's best European performance is reaching the Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals in 1983-84.

Celtic have won the Champions Cup once, in 1967. They were the first British team to win the trophy. In 1970 Celtic lost the Champions Cup final in San Siro going down 2-1 (aet) against Feyenoord.

Shakhtar Donetsk are unbeaten in their last five Champions League home matches. Their last home defeat was on 14 September 2004 against AC Milan (0-1).

Celtic are yet to win their first CL away match. In 13 matches away from home, Celtic managed one draw and 12 defeats.

Player and disciplinary info

Tomas Hubschman is the most experienced player in the Shahktar squad with 26 CL matches under his belt. With five CL goals, Nery Alberto Castillo is the only player from the current Shakhtar squad who has netted more than once in the Champions League. The Mexican midfielder scored all his previous goals for Olympiacos.

Celtic's most experienced player in the Champions League is Czech midfielder Jiri Jarosik with 38 appearances. Jarosik also has six goals in the competition. Striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink is on five goals in the competition.

Unbeaten Shakhtar are currently top of the UPL with a three point lead over Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Celtic also have an undefeated domestic league record and lead SPL by one point from Rangers.
