Weather affects opening rounds of Tour Championship

ATLANTA -- So much for the drought.

There hasn't been much rainfall around here recently, but inclement weather has already forced a suspension of play in Thursday's opening round of the Tour Championship. Meanwhile, tee times for Friday's second round have already been moved up.

Play was halted at 2:17 p.m., just minutes after FedEx Cup points leader Tiger Woods hit his first shot of the day. Currently, Tim Clark sits atop the leaderboard at 4-under through 11 holes, with Padraig Harrington, Camilo Villegas and Scott Verplank each one stroke further back.

Friday's tee times will now begin at 8 a.m. ET, with the final pairing going off at 10:20 a.m.

According to a PGA Tour statement, "Remnants of Hurricane Humberto will be pulled northeast into Alabama by [Friday] afternoon as a cold front continues to move south out of the Midwest. Deep tropical moisture will produce heavy rainfall in the Atlanta area."
