BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Bills quarterback J.P. Losman will start Sunday against Cincinnati.

The team announced on Tuesday that Trent Edwards needs additional time to recover from a sprained right wrist. Bills coach Dick Jauron said in a statement that it's unclear whether Edwards will practice at all this week.
Edwards, a third-round draft pick last April, hurt his throwing hand in the third quarter of Buffalo's 13-3 win at the New York Jets last weekend.
Losman took over with the game tied at 3 and produced two scoring drives, sealing the win with an 85-yard touchdown pass to Lee Evans. The Bills (3-4) have rebounded nicely since opening with three losses.
For Losman, the game against Cincinnati will mark his first start since he sprained his left knee during the first series of a 38-7 loss to New England in Week 3.
Edwards went 2-1 in starting the next three games and had been awarded the No. 1 job heading into last weekend.
Edwards' injury is the latest twist in what's become a running quarterback debate this season. And Jauron clouded the discussion further Monday when he declined to say whether Edwards would reclaim the starting job once healthy.
Losman has gone 33-of-52 for 368 yards with a touchdown and interception. He struggled to start the season, in part handcuffed by the Bills' decision to go with a conservative ball-control attack to take the pressure off an injury-depleted defense.
Edwards has been more efficient in producing extended drives and helping the Bills win the time-of-possession battle in his four starts. Edwards, however, has also been inconsistent and lacking as a finisher. Despite going 80-of-121 for 790 yards, he's produced just one touchdown pass and also thrown five interceptions.
This is not the first time Losman has bounced between being a backup and starter. The second of Buffalo's two 2004 first-round picks twice lost his job in 2005 to journeyman Kelly Holcomb.
Losman finally appeared on the right track after playing every snap last season. He became the first Bills quarterback to pass for 3,000 yards since Drew Bledsoe in 2002 and helped Buffalo to a 7-9 finish by winning five of its last nine games.
