Reports: Duncan agrees to two-year extension

Two-time league MVP Tim Duncan has reached agreement with the San Antonio Spurs on a two-year contract extension, according to published reports.

Duncan, 31, has three years remaining on his current contract. The extension, which Yahoo.com reported is worth $40 million, would take the 10-time All-Star through the 2011-12 season.

An announcement is expected by the end of the week. Duncan and the defending NBA champion Spurs open the season Tuesday night at home against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Duncan could have signed for several millions more than the reported $40 million but, citing Duncan's agent, Lon Babby, Yahoo.com said the player wanted to allow the Spurs to build around him in future seasons.
