The return of Saqlain to Surrey is a major boost for the club, who finished fourth in the County Championship Division One last season. Saqlain took 384 first-class wickets in his first spell at The Oval but serious knee problems in 2005 forced him to take a break from cricket. He returned to have a brief spell with Ireland before his time at Sussex, where he took 18 wickets in four matches at an average of 17.55.
Butcher added: "Saqlain, as Surrey fans know, is a proven international quality spinner. "To be securing his services as a local player is a huge bonus and I can't wait to watch him weaving his magic in 2008." Saqlain, who also played 49 Tests for Pakistan with his last appearance coming in 2004, is also eligible to play for England in 2008. "It's an exciting prospect to know I might get a chance for England," said Saqlain.
